The complete range of Ford electric cars caters for all types of drivers - from those who only ever do a short trip into the city, those who travel the length and breadth of the country and also those inbetween. Electric cars are increasingly valued by families who need a car that is a great allrounder. Ford’s electric cars fall into four categories - we explain each below and how they differ. At the OMC Motorgroup, the north west’s longest serving approved Ford dealers, we appreciate that you might not be an expert in the nuances between each type of electric and hybrid vehicle. We would be delighted to discuss your requirements and offer advice as to which type of vehicle might be most suitable. It is of course possible to test drive each and every vehicle, this the best way to get a sense of whether a Ford electric motor is truly for you. After all, it is easy to speak of their advantages and great driving experience, but far better to judge for yourself. We have dealerships in Oldham, Rochdale and Accrington - full contact details here. In designing a range of electric vehicles, Ford have set out with the aim of providing options for any customer. Some drivers only ever commute short distances and drive in the city, others are almost always using the car for lengthy trips - clearly no one type of engine would be suitable for both. In between lies the majority, those whose driving consists of a wide variety of journeys - family holidays, trips to the supermarket, school runs, driving to a business meeting. Most Manchester drivers have this sort of make-up of journeys and so require an electric car as suited to heading north to the Lake District as it is to driving to the Manchester museums or sporting stadia. For many, the plug-in hybrid vehicles and hybrid vehicles mentioned below will be suitable. Mild Hybrid Vehicles (MHEV). Mild hybrid vehicles have an internal combustion engine that is assisted by an electric motor. The engine can switch itself off at low speeds or when the car is stationary and then restart seamlessly - for any trip along Deansgate, around Oxford Road or other city centre route this is perfect. Charging of the battery happens automatically through regenerative braking and so there is no need to connect to an external power source with this engines. The mild hybrid Fords still make significant use of the standard combustion engine and, for many, are a first foray into the world of electric vehicles. Hybrid Vehicles (HEV) The Ford hybrid engines have a larger battery with more powerful motor than the MHEV option. These vehicles are capable of driving parts of journeys purely on the electric motor and so overall driving range can be enhanced The new Ford Mondeo is an example of this hybrid approach. If you were to take a hybrid Ford for a test drive we would be able to demonstrate the seamless switch between standard and electric engines. Plug-in hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) The plug-in hybrid range can be charged from an external power source. Finding these external sources is now straightforward because of recent growth in demand for electric vehicles. A map of Manchester’s charging points is available on the Zap Map site. The PHEV cars are a superb all round option and worth considering for any family. They have full hybrid functionality and the large battery means they are capable of zero emissions while driving. They can switch to hybrid mode to conserve battery life or pure petrol or diesel driving for lengthier journeys. The all-new Kuga range includes plug in hybrid options. All Electric Vehicles (BEV) All electric vehicles rely solely on battery power. They use zero fuel, produce no emissions and so are truly the future. They can also be an affordable option, especially when government purchase initiatives are factored in (plus reduced road tax and no penalties in low emission zones). On this site, we have full details of all four types of vehicles and also videos that explain how the engines work and define the key concepts such as regenerative braking. Within each of the four categories, a number of different models are available, for instance both the Mondeo and Kuga are among Fords available as Hybrid vehicles. On this site, you can browse any range, see full details and the options for every available Ford. It is also possible to book a test drive, request further information and arrange a finance example. A major city in the north west of England, Manchester has a population of some 534,982, which rises to 3 million when the whole of Greater Manchester is considered. Manchester exists in the record books from Roman times with the fort of Mamucium which was established in around AD 79. However, it was centuries later, with the industrial revolution that Manchester became a globally important city (city statues actually achieved in 1853). The Manchester Ship Canal directly linked Manchester to the Irish Sea, and the rest, as they say, is history - Manchester becoming the world’s first industrialised city as the region became a leading global industrial centre. As with all cities, industries and focus changes over time and Manchester is now a leading city in other fields, including culture, sport and also engineering. The city is famous for its two football clubs - Manchester United and City, both multiple winners of the Premier League. Lancashire Cricket also play at Old Trafford in Manchester, while the city boasts cycling and swimming facilities the envy of any other city in the UK. Famous Mancunians include L.S Lowry, Liam and Noel Gallagher, David Lloyd-George, Morrissey, Mike Atherton and many, many more.Whether it is for Manchester City centre driving or heading out on to the M60, M6 and beyond, Ford now has a range of electric cars to suit all driving requirements in and around Manchester.
