Gareth has recently bought a New All-Electric Explorer in Arctic Blue from OMC Ford Oldham. He talks about living with the Explorer, his charging solutions, what compelled him to switch to EV and his experience buying from OMC.
My previous vehicle was a Hybrid Ford Kuga, which was a plug-in hybrid.
My Ford Kuga was my first experience into the electric vehicle world, and certainly gave me my first glimpse into the savings that can be made from electric vehicles. Even though I only got 40 miles from a full electric charge on the Ford Kuga, it still provided really good petrol savings and definitely spurred me on into looking for an all-electric vehicle.
I’ve been looking at all-electric vehicles for the last 6 months but hadn’t really seen a vehicle which caught my eye in terms of overall look and cost, until the Ford Explorer came along.
For anyone looking into buying an electric vehicle, its really important to do your research first. There is a lot of negative misinformation regarding the electric vehicle market, and its only when you do more focused research you actually realise the amazing benefits available. One of the biggest research points for me was the charging element. There are many charging options now in most public areas, with various speed and power choices available as well as various cost options. My personal choice has been to have an EV charger fitted by my energy supplier at home, and a benefit of doing this is they’ll give me a special rate where the electric is cheaper during the night, resulting in a full 370-mile charge for an average cost of approx. £4.00 – the equivalent in petrol being between £35-£40.00.
I use my vehicle on a more social aspect as opposed to commuting daily however I do have a holiday home which I travel to quite often as well as weekly trips in and around my local area making family visits and shopping trips. If I was a regular commuter though, the benefits of the home EV charging point would an amazing help versus the weekly visits to the petrol station.
The Ford explorer is packed with amazing features. The overall look of vehicle is a classy, bold SUV vibe, and the Artic Blue I’ve chosen is subtle yet striking at the same time. I’m super happy with all the mod cons relating to car comfort, such as the extensive air conditioning programmes, seat features and my heated steering wheel. The most striking feature, and one I’m still finding something new on everyday is the main vehicle touchscreen. This really is the heart of my new car and provides a comprehensive range of apps and tools to enhance your car driving experience, there are just too many to mention.
This was my second car buying experience from the team sat OMC Ford in Oldham. From my initial enquiry the team provided a great sales experience, and what I enjoy the most is the attention to detail. The typical car sales experience isn’t what you get at OMC Ford Oldham, you receive a personal shopping experience with no pressure or stress at any point. There was a wide range of finance options available, and I drove my car away within a week of signing for it. On the day I picked my car up, I was treated to an exciting unveiling experience (which was all over my Instagram) and a in-depth lowdown on all the vehicles features. I drove away very happy, and will always choose OMC Ford Oldham in future, Thanks again guys.
